Forks

Fork – full service (rebuild)

Manufacturers recommend a full service or rebuild every 125 hours of riding or once at the beginning of the riding season. A full service includes:

  • Complete disassembly of chassis as well as both spring and damper
  • All parts cleaned. Ultrasonic cleaning used on small parts
  • All parts inspected for failures such as dents, cracks, defects etc.
  • Replace any defective parts for an extra cost
  • Replace dust wipers on lowers and all seals, o-rings in both spring and damper
  • Damper bled by hand or vacuum pump where applicable
  • Reassembly with fresh grease and bath oil
  • Fork tested for proper operation
  • Final inspection

Fork – Basic service

Manufacturers recommend a basic service every 50 hours of riding or once at the middle of the riding season. A basic service includes:

  • Removal and cleaning of the fork Lowers
  • Chassis and Lowers inspected for failures such as dents, cracks, defects, etc.
  • Damper and spring are tested for proper operation
  • Dust wipers and foam rings are replaced on Lowers
  • Reassembly with fresh grease and bath oil
  • Fork tested for proper operation
  • Final Inspection

Fork – Air spring service

From time to time during a basic service, the damper tests satisfactorily but the air spring feels sticky and dry.  An air spring service is recommended to freshen up the feel of the fork.  An air spring service includes:

  • Disassembly of the air spring and fork air cap
  • Air spring and interior of the stanchion cleaned of old grease and oil
  • Inspection of all seals for defects
  • Reassembly of the air spring with fresh grease and lubricating oil

Fork – Marzocchi service

Most older Marzocchi forks use an open bath damping system which cycles the oil in the Lowers through the damper when operating. During a basic service, removal of the damper is required to properly clean all used oil before replacing it with fresh oil. A service+ includes:

  • Removal of the fork Lowers and damper
  • Lowers, damper and inner stanchion cleaned
  • Chassis and damper are inspected for failures such as dents, cracks, defects, etc.
  • Spring is tested for proper operation
  • Dust wipers and foam rings are replaced on Lowers
  • Reassembly with fresh grease and bath oil
  • Fork tested for proper operation
  • Final inspection

Air Shock – Full service (rebuild)

Manufacturers recommend a full service or rebuild every 125 hours of riding or once at the beginning of the riding season. A full service includes:

  • Complete disassembly of air sleeve and damper
  • All parts cleaned. Ultrasonic cleaning used on small parts
  • All parts inspected for failures such as dents, cracks, defects etc.
  • Replace any defective parts including eyelet bushings for an extra cost
  • Replace all seals, o-rings in damper
  • Replace dust seals on air sleeve
  • Damper bled by hand or vacuum pump where applicable
  • IFP height set and chamber charged with nitrogen
  • Reassembly with fresh grease and air sleeve lubricating oil
  • Shock tested for proper operation using hand dynamometer
  • Final inspection

Manufacturers recommend a full service or rebuild every 125 hours of riding or once at the beginning of the riding season. Coil shocks do not require basic service because they do not have air sleeves. A full service includes:

  • Complete disassembly of damper
  • All parts cleaned. Ultrasonic cleaning used on small parts
  • All parts inspected for failures such as dents, cracks, defects etc.
  • Replace any defective parts including eyelet bushings for an extra cost
  • Replace all seals, o-rings in damper
  • Damper bled by hand or vacuum pump where applicable
  • IFP height set and chamber charged with nitrogen
  • Shock tested for proper operation using hand dynamometer
  • Final inspection

Seatpost – Reverb full service (rebuild)

Manufacturers recommend a full service on the Reverb once or twice a year, depending on riding frequency. A Reverb full service includes:

  • Complete disassembly of seat post and actuating mechanism
  • All parts cleaned. Ultrasonic cleaning used on small parts
  • All parts inspected for failures such as dents, cracks, defects etc.
  • Replace any defective parts for an extra cost
  • Replace all seals and o-rings (some upgrades included in rebuild kit) and oil in seat post actuating mechanism
  • Reassembly with fresh grease
  • Remote circuit bled as required
  • Seat post tested for proper operation
  • Final inspection

* Ask about using a lighter weight oil for winter operation

Many popular model seat posts have a sealed actuating mechanism which cannot be disassembled or rebuilt. These models still require a service from time to time to spruce up and inspect the sliding mechanism. A service on these models include:

  • All parts cleaned. Ultrasonic cleaning used on small parts
  • All parts inspected for failures such as dents, cracks, defects etc.
  • Reassembly with fresh grease
